55.2.3 Selecting overall fill color

Fill color is the color in which Abaqus/CAE displays your model faces. This color is plot state–independent; that is, you set it once for all undeformed, deformed, symbol, and material orientation plots. You can also set the fill color that Abaqus/CAE will apply to the undeformed shape when the deformed shape is superimposed on it. Fill color applies to filled and lightsource-shaded render style plots only; it is not applicable to contour plots.

You can choose one display color for your entire model, or you can optionally override this display color for selected items, such as particular elements. For example, you can display your model in green, with a group of elements shown in red. For more information on individual item coloring, see Customizing the display color of individual objects, Section 77.8.

To select the model fill color:

  1. Locate the common or superimposed fill color options. The common fill color always applies to the deformed shape; it applies to the undeformed shape when it is plotted individually in any plot state (undeformed, deformed, symbol, or material orientation). When the undeformed shape is plotted with the deformed shape, the superimpose fill color applies.

From the main menu bar, select OptionsCommon or Superimpose; then click the Color & Style tab in the dialog box that appears.

The Fill color in filled/shaded plots options are in the center of the Color & Style page.

  2. Choose the fill color:

    1. Click the Fill color in filled/shaded plots color sample .

Abaqus/CAE displays the Select Color dialog box.

    2. Use one of the methods in the Select Color dialog box to select a new color. For more information, see Customizing colors, Section 3.2.9.

    3. Click OK to close the Select Color dialog box.

The color sample changes to the selected color. The new color does not appear in the viewport until you click OK or Apply in the Plot Options dialog box.

  3. Toggle Allow color code selections to override options in this dialog off to display all elements in the fill color specified above. Toggle it on to override this color using individual item color selections. The default is on. For more information, see Customizing the display color of individual objects, Section 77.8.

  4. Click Apply to implement your changes.

The fill color changes to reflect your specifications.

By default, your changes are saved for the duration of the session and will affect all subsequent plots in the current viewport and in any new viewports created from the current viewport. If you want to retain the changes you applied for subsequent sessions, save them to a file. For more information, see Saving customizations for use in subsequent sessions, Section 55.1.1.
