You can access additional functionality for manipulating part instances using the Model Tree. After you select a part instance or multiple instances in the Model Tree, you can click mouse button 3 and select from the following options:
To change a part instance from dependent to independent, select Make Independent from the menu that appears. Similarly, you can select Make Dependent from the menu to change a part instance from independent to dependent.
To link part instances, select Link Instances from the menu that appears to display the Link Instances dialog box and do the following:
For each child part instance, specify the model and part instance to which you want to link. By default, the dialog box displays all models in the model database other than the current model that have part instances with the same names as the selected instances. You can specify other values by clicking in the Model or Instance column of the table and selecting from the list of names displayed.
If you want the child part instances excluded from the input file that Abaqus/CAE generates when you submit the job for analysis, toggle on Also exclude child instances from simulation.
Click Link.
Icons appear in the Model Tree to indicate the linked status of the part instances. By default, linked part instances are colored gray in the viewport.
To exclude part instances from the analysis, select Exclude from Simulation from the menu that appears. Icons appear in the Model Tree to indicate the excluded status of the part instance. By default, part instances that are excluded from the analysis are colored dark gray in the viewport. Similarly, you can select Include in Simulation from the menu to include a part instance in an analysis for which it was previously excluded. For more information, see “Excluding part instances from an analysis,” Section 13.3.6.
To ignore the invalid status of a part instance, select Ignore Invalidity. For more information, see “Working with invalid parts,” Section 10.2.3.
